FAQ

Good questions.
Straight answers.

Here's what to know about how Deals for Canada finds, checks and labels products.

What is Deal Check?

Deal Check is our way of answering a simple question: is the current price actually a good deal? When we have enough reliable price information, we look at the current price, available price history, deal signals and confidence in the information before giving you a Deal Score and a BUY, GOOD DEAL, WAIT or SKIP verdict.

What is Deal Score?

Deal Score is our assessment of how attractive a current price looks based on the information available to us at the time. It is about the price opportunity, not whether the product is personally right for you.

Does a high Deal Score mean this is the best product?

No. Deal Score asks whether the price looks good. It is not a product review or a personal test. We keep price quality and product quality as separate questions.

Why might you say “WAIT” even when something is on sale?

A sale label does not automatically mean a great deal. If the available price history or other evidence does not support an unusually good price, we would rather tell you to wait.

What if you don't have enough information to score a product?

We do not invent a score. Deal Check may tell you that a product has not been scored yet or that more evidence is needed. We'd rather say “not sure” than call something a deal when it isn't.

How do you compare retailers?

As we add retailer data, we can compare legitimate offers across Canadian shopping sites. Our goal is to recommend the best verified deal, not simply the retailer that pays us a commission.

How do you determine if something is made in Canada?

We look for reliable information from manufacturers, retailers, product documentation and other relevant sources. We do not assume that a Canadian brand, maple leaf or Canadian-looking marketing means the product was made here.

What does “Origin not verified” mean?

It means we did not find enough reliable information to confidently classify the product's origin. It does not mean the product is not Canadian-made. We would rather leave the answer open than guess.

Can Canadian-origin information be wrong or change?

Yes. Our origin information is based on what we can find and assess at the time. We are not a certification service and do not independently inspect every product. When origin matters, we encourage you to check the manufacturer's current information too.

Do you earn money from the deals you recommend?

Some links may be affiliate links, which means we may receive a commission if you purchase through them. Our goal is to recommend the best legitimate deal we can verify, whether or not a retailer pays us.

Why don't I see every retailer yet?

We're building Deals for Canada retailer by retailer. We want each source to be reliable enough to support accurate prices, availability and deal assessments before we rely on it.
